Introduction
Since the creation of Above the Rim Basketball School in 1997, the program has grown in leaps and bounds. Originally established as a one week overnight summer basketball camp located in Richmond, Quebec, Above the Rim Basketball School now runs summer day camp, March Break day camps and weekly evening programs independently as well as for a variety of communities and institutions in eastern Ontario and much of Quebec.
To further illustrate the integrity of the program:
- Above the Rim Basketball School is contracted by the City of Ottawa to run weekly evening programs as well as Summer day camps and March Break day camps for Nepean, Orleans and Kanata.
- Many Native Communities in Canada's North contract Above the Rim Basketball School to come to their communities and work with their youth, to develop their basketball skills in a safe and fun environment. Summer day camps and weekly developmental programs are met with great success in these regions!
- Above the Rim Basketball School conducts day and/or weekend clinics for schools. Sessions are run to train teams and develop programs in schools.
The main reason for Above the Rim Basketball School's success is the high quality of the teaching/coaching staff. All staff are certified coaches and/or teachers with a vast degree of experience. In fact, the staff consists of teachers and coaches from the elementary school, high school, college and university levels. The high standard is maintained by the balance of coaches' knowledge of the game, their thrill for basketball and professionalism when dealing with children. The staff is sensitive to the needs of each individual.
Above the Rim Basketball School offers quality instruction for players of all ages and abilities. Participants of Above the Rim Basketball School's summer day camps, March Break camps and evening programs have the opportunity to improve their fundamental skills through instruction, drill work, stations, contests and games.
